Girlblogging: The Beginning of LaFemmeFataleBlog

Welcome…

Hi! Thank you for checking out my blog. This is the first official post for La Femme Fatale Blog! While you may have read the about section already, this page will provide a more in-depth summary of who I am, what this blog is, and what exactly I aim to achieve with it.

Who am I?

I have recently graduated from university after three years of studying in London and a year in New York, and I have always had a passion for writing. I am also deeply outspoken and so this feels natural, especially to write, as this is the mode in which I feel most comfortable to express my thoughts. For as long as I can remember, writing has always been my solace.

But writing about what exactly? Well… At the start of sixth form, I told a friend I was not really political, and that ignorance will forever haunt me. As I have grown, I have realised that it was not even true and it simply meant that I did not follow U.K. current affairs (which was its own kind of ignorance). But my debates at the dinner table with my father and my firm feminist stance at the time said otherwise. I was incredibly political without fully understanding just how much, and since going to university, I have only become more radically political.

Why this blog?

I’ve been told by some of my male friends that these days I am “too woke.” And so I wondered: how could I possibly become more insufferable? The answer, it turns out, is to create a website from scratch and then begin blogging.

While on Instagram I can share provocative posts and share a sense of my thoughts, I constantly find myself wanting to write pages and pages… I yearn to write, and I need an outlet for my political rage. Many people in my life and those I see on the internet care about what is happening in the world, but it is admittedly hard to understand what is actually going on with all the noise. I want this to be a place where I can dissect events and bring a perspective some people may not have considered.

Throughout university, and since leaving, I have conjured a lot of thoughts about the world and even more opinions. About politics. About feminism. About what it actually means to be a woman navigating it all. La Femme Fatale Blog is where I want to put all of this.

More importantly, and what I believe the world is currently falling short of, is that I want a space to share how we can improve. I want to write about things and follow them with calls to action. Political rage needs to be channelled! The media right now angers and riles us up, but there is hardly any organising, and no direction for all that energy. I want this page to be a starting point for some people.

Why La Femme Fatale?

Aside from the obvious (the obvious being my life-long obsession with the French language), I have long admired the femme fatale archetype which is demonised by society. This is because the direct translation means “deadly woman” or “fatal woman” where La Femme Fatale is the perpetrator, the seductress, the downfall of men. But truly, what is she guilty of? Perhaps having power, having opinions, refusing to be controlled?

For me, La Femme Fatale epitomises womanhood and power and goes against everything the patriarchy stands for. This blog is about reclaiming this label and playing right into it.

And at last, a thank you…

This post is dedicated to the very first readers of Insights by Jade, which I launched back in 2022. To my dad and stepmum, my first ever readers. To Jaz and Kelsie, my first subscribers. And to Mo, who helped spam my website views to push my one and only post (on matcha, of course) to 100 views.

And to all my beautiful friends, including those named above: thank you for encouraging me to keep writing and posting, even though I know you may be my only readers for a while. But my biggest thank you will always go to my little sister: my first view, my first like, and my first comment. You make me want to help make the world a better place.

Thank you all. <3
